This one:
Green SHO is classy.

I have a weird thing for the Contour, so the Contour.
I’ve ridden in one, and they’re massive pieces of shit. But I like it still for some strange reason.

The SVT isn’t too bad; fairly fast for the era. It was a Ford Mondeo in the EU. One thing to remember is that it had things like cabin air filters and more horsepower than the 1999 Mustang GT. Too much body roll for my liking, but it certainly went like stink.

Contour. Almost as much power but so much smaller. That thing must fly

I’ve ridden in a sho with v8 and slushbox, it hauls ass and you can cook a whole turkey with the heat it emits.

As an ex-owner of two SHOs, SHO for sure. I didn’t care for Ford styling of the Contours vintage
And that Yamaha V6 had a very distinct roar
![]() 07/30/2016 at 20:32 |
|
SHO because Yamaha makes the best heads.
![]() 07/30/2016 at 20:34 |
|
Probably better parts support for a Duratec than the Yamaha as well, as cool as the Yamaha V6 is
![]() 07/30/2016 at 20:34 |
|
This is true, that thing can seriously rev
![]() 07/30/2016 at 20:35 |

Didn’t have more power than the 4.9 or Modular and the Mustang GT weighted about the same.
![]() 07/30/2016 at 20:37 |

I prefer the styling of the Taurus too. Yeah, I love its sound
![]() 07/30/2016 at 20:37 |
|
You know Yammie made a V8 too, right?
![]() 07/30/2016 at 20:38 |
|
I know the V6 SHOs are the better cars, but I still want one of the jelly bean SHOs just because of that V8
![]() 07/30/2016 at 20:44 |
|
Yes, and they sound completely glorious, but didn't they have issues with snapping cams or something? They also made V8s for Volvo and I want one of those too
![]() 07/30/2016 at 20:46 |
|
Such a good colour
![]() 07/30/2016 at 20:46 |
|
They did, but that sounds to me like an excuse for bigger cams!
![]() 07/30/2016 at 20:48 |

Isn’t a cabin air filter a rather standard item? I might show my ignorance here, but I know I swapped it in my beater 4 cylinder ‘97 Galant and I believe my mk2 Golf had one as well.
The Contour wasn’t a Mondeo though. It did share some things (doors?) with that car, but simply looking at pictures of the side profile and rear shows the differences.
![]() 07/30/2016 at 20:50 |
|
This is a good point. The sound it makes almost makes up for the looks and auto trans
![]() 07/30/2016 at 20:50 |
|
SHO, one with a V6 and a manual. I heard bad news about SHOs equipped with automatic, both V6 and V8 generations.
![]() 07/30/2016 at 20:53 |
|
I’ve always wondered how hard a manual swap would be since it uses the same transmission as the earlier V6s that were available with a stick.
![]() 07/30/2016 at 20:53 |
|
the robocop tauri are more iconic while the jelly has a fisher price interior design. The oversized shifter in those bother me.
![]() 07/30/2016 at 20:54 |
|
Yeah, same here. I know in the 2nd gens, they detuned the engine from 220-200 to make the trans last longer. That's never a good sign
![]() 07/30/2016 at 20:55 |
|
I agree. The 2nd gens are my favourite, they look the cleanest to me
![]() 07/30/2016 at 20:57 |
|
Oh really? Well that's potentially promising, I wonder if anyone's done it
![]() 07/30/2016 at 20:58 |
|
Mercury Sable AIV, the superior SHO.
![]() 07/30/2016 at 20:59 |
|
Oh man I forgot those existed. I wish there were more of them
![]() 07/30/2016 at 21:13 |
|
Contour BECAUSE ITS A MONDEO! do a EDM Mondeo rear end swap and make a replica BTCC car... or just make one without the Mondeo rear because why not.
![]() 07/30/2016 at 21:23 |
|
The Contour SVT is a really fun car in its own way. Speedy and relatively soft. But, the build quality is utter garbage.
![]() 07/30/2016 at 21:27 |
|
Last I heard, they were going to be crushed, too.
![]() 07/30/2016 at 21:30 |
|
That's what I read too :( I hate stuff like that. You'd think Ford would want to make them registerable, or at least put a couple in museums
![]() 07/30/2016 at 21:32 |
|
Well that's never a good thing. Taurus build quality isn't amazing, but it's not the worst either
![]() 07/30/2016 at 21:48 |
|
I know the Contour would handle better, but the SHO is soooo cool.
Also I still want a 2nd Gen SHO myself.
![]() 07/30/2016 at 21:56 |
|
I wholeheartedly agree
![]() 07/30/2016 at 22:08 |
|
Both, definitely both. I lush for a second gem SHO so hard. Someone in my town has a beautiful Contour SVT, I want it slightly less but still quite a bit.
![]() 07/30/2016 at 22:09 |
|
You can pick those up pretty cheap. If you hate yourself I just saw one with a slipping trans for sake for $600, you could probably get it for 4 or 5.
![]() 07/30/2016 at 22:09 |
|
I love that sexy intake.
![]() 07/30/2016 at 22:19 |
|
I had read up on it before since there are so many floating around with bad transmissions. I just looked again. It is doable buy a pain that requires custom work. If you want a project it sounds worthwhile. Plus you can get a junkyard Mazda 5 speed instead.
![]() 07/30/2016 at 22:39 |
|
I would think they’d save at least one. It's said they built 40 with 20 released to the public. I wonder if that was sales, or just for testing and those cars were returned to Ford. Sure was a cool concept.
![]() 07/30/2016 at 22:46 |
|
I imagine they were returned to Ford, but I hope they weren't. Definitely a cool concept
![]() 07/30/2016 at 22:47 |
|
I do hate myself, that’s why I consider things like this
http://abbotsford.craigslist.ca/cto/5706034947…
Doesn't have much V8 going on though
![]() 07/30/2016 at 23:02 |
|
The Duratec is pretty, well, durable. But, everything else feels Yugo-esque.
![]() 07/30/2016 at 23:08 |
|
.....gross. I don't want that haha
![]() 07/30/2016 at 23:12 |
|
I looked at a few last summer because I really do love the way they drive, and even cars that had obviously been taken care of had disintegrating interiors, broken window regulators, trim falling off. It totally turned me off the idea even though my other car is 40 years old and French. The Taurus never seemed quite so chintzy, but it obviously has its own issues.
![]() 07/30/2016 at 23:16 |
|
That's pretty unimpressive. Could be a good candidate for stripping and race car-ing though
![]() 07/30/2016 at 23:20 |
|
They only one with recent-ish pictures on Google is the blue one that was in Canada and that one was apparently scheduled to return to Ford. So, maybe they are all gone unless they put that one in their collection.
![]() 07/30/2016 at 23:23 |
|
Yeah :/ that's entirely possible

Too bad about the color.
![]() 07/31/2016 at 04:07 |
|
Yeah, it’s unfortunate how many “premium” cars from the 90s are gold beige
![]() 07/31/2016 at 04:11 |
|
While making a risk the automakers also wanted to play it safe I guess. Those that could afford them were older too I would assume.
![]() 07/31/2016 at 04:12 |
|
Most likely, yeah. The commonality of that colour is awful when it come to finding old bmws, so many E34s, E32s, and even E30s are in beige
![]() 07/31/2016 at 04:15 |
|
Nothing a gold ol fashion can of spray paint won't cure(that's wrong, don't believe it).
![]() 07/31/2016 at 05:38 |

No contest, SHO 10 times out of 10.
![]() 08/01/2016 at 02:38 |

Same platform and such — for a US “domestic” spec vehicle a cabin air filter was a new-fangled dohickey. Only them fancy European cars had stuff like that, especially in 1998-9.
